Year Elected to Office and Number of Terms Served

Hermsen was elected to her first term on City Council in the fall of 2021 and took office in January 2022.

Education and Background

Originally from Grant, Nebraska, Hermsen was a Rotary Youth Exchange Student to Finland (2010-2011) and came to Oskaloosa to attend William Penn University. She graduated with a major in public accounting, minors in business and sport management, and was the recipient of the university’s Presidents Leadership Award. She participated in Leadership Iowa University, serves as  chair on the Mahaska Young Professionals board, and was named Oskaloosa Main Street Volunteer of the Year and 2022 Iowa Downtown Difference Maker.

Place of Employment

After graduation from William Penn, Hermsen worked for Musco Sports Lighting, LLC for six years as a financial project analyst then transitioned to senior financial analyst with Pella Corporation.

Reason for Running for Public Office

Hermsen feels she can bring diversity and a younger voice to the council and help be the change to continue to grow Oskaloosa for a better future.

Family Members

Hermsen and her husband Josh married in 2021.
