Residents may also dispose of acceptable materials at the Mahaska County landfill located just south of town at 2979 Highway 63. Payment is due at the time of drop-off. Please contact the landfill office at 641-673-9266 with any questions regarding hours, payment, acceptable items, and general inquiries.

Yard waste


Residents are encouraged to dispose of leaves, plants, shrubs, grass clippings, tree branches, and other organic material by composting or recycling on-site.  Open burning of yard waste (except recreational fires) is not allowed within city limits.

Oskaloosa residents may utilize the city's yard waste drop-off and collection site at 2088 Suffolk Road (also known as 1500 3rd Ave W).  The fence gate entrance is located at the bottom of the hill near the 3-way intersection and recreation trail. Please follow all posted rules, remove all bags, and do not dump any material outside or over the gate while the site is closed. Violators will be prosecuted.
