Reserve Firefighter Program

Reserve Firefighter Program

The Oskaloosa Reserve Firefighter Program was organized in 1996. The Reserves are utilized to help supplement the Full-Time Firefighters. We try to staff around 20 members in the Program. The Reserves are paid on call and can get paged into the Fire Station anytime, day or night, when they are needed.

The Reserves are certified to Firefighter II levels and are required to be at the same training level as the Full-Time Firefighters. Some of the skills the Reserves need to know are all jobs for Fire Ground and Fire Suppression Activities, Search and Rescue Operations, Extrication Operations, and Pump Operations to name a few. Once a Reserve is fully trained, they can also help out in Public Safety Classes and do shift duty for Full-Time Staff that are on vacation.

The Oskaloosa Fire Department accepts applications in September of each year, for the Reserve Program, if there are openings that need filled. Applicants must meet specific requirements in order to be considered and there is no cost to apply. To apply to be a Reserve Firefighter you must complete an employment application.
