Community
Services
The
Community Service Office is staffed by one full-time officer who
is responsible for presentation of programs, demonstrations, tours
and public service work covering such diverse topics as bank robbery
responses, check writing fraud, shop lifting prevention, domestic
abuse violence, crime prevention, and car and residential burglaries.
The Oskaloosa
Police Department has embraced a policing philosophy designed to
develop ways to
meet with citizens in non-conflictive situations, exchanging ideas,
and developing verbal relationships that will foster cooperation
in solving and/or preventing problems. To further that goal and
to give citizens an understanding of the department's procedures,
a Citizen Police Academy is held periodically. The academy focuses
on the job of police officers in Oskaloosa, as presented by various
members of the department, with hands-on training in traffic stops,
domestic abuse situations and firearm scenarios. Citizen feedback
helps to keep the classes pertinent and allows for an exchange between
the citizens and officers.
