Mayor David Krutzfeldt
David Krutzfeldt
Year Elected to Office and Number of Terms Served:
Prior to being appointed mayor in August 2009, Mayor Krutzfeldt was a member of the Oskaloosa City Council for four terms: 1992-1996, 1996-2000, a partial term from 2000-June 2001, and 2002-2005. After his appointment, he was reelected Mayor for the 2010-11 term, 2012-2013 term, 2014-2015 term and then again for the 2016-2017 term.  

Education and Background:
Krutzfeldt received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Iowa in 1982 majoring in Accounting. Following graduation, he passed the CPA exam and worked a couple years in the banking industry.  He then worked for the State Auditor’s Office where his responsibilities included city, county, and school auditing.  After that, his work took him into the corporate arena.

Place of Employment:
Krutzfeldt is the Chief Financial Officer for Interpower Corporation. He is also the Controller for Tassel Ridge Winery.

Community Activities and Organizations Currently Involved In:
Krutzfeldt is a member of the Mahaska County YMCA Board of Directors, sits on the Regional Housing Trust Fund Committee which feeds into the Area 15 Housing Trust Fund, is a member of the Highway 63 Coalition, the Mahaska County Assessor's Conference Board, Chamber of Commerce Board, Mahaska County Agriculture and Rural Development Board, and actively participates in numerous committees and boards in which a mayor traditionally serves and is involved. 

Reason for Running for Public Office:
Aware of the many challenges that face governmental bodies at this time, Krutzfeldt believes he can use his skills and background to make a difference. Government is his passion and his hobby. 

Decision or Action of Which Most Proud:
Krutzfeldt has observed and participated in many positive changes while serving on City Council and as Mayor. Of those changes, he is particularly pleased with the remodel of the Oskaloosa Public Library, the preservation of the Frankel Building (Smokey Row), the partnership which built the elementary school, the partnership with the joint law enforcement center, and the downtown streetscaping project. 

Additional Involvement and Special Areas of Interest:
Krutzfeldt sits on the Regional Workforce Investment Board through Iowa Workforce Development, and was on the Streamline Sales Tax Advisory Committee which addressed legislation regarding taxation on Internet sales.  

Family Members:
Krutzfeldt and his wife, Jane, have four adult children: Stephen, Sam, Ben and Hannah.
