SECTION 8 HOMEOWNERSHIP

Qualified OMHA Section 8 program participants are now able to use their Section 8 Vouchers toward their own home loan payments. By working with homeownership educators and local lenders, it is now possible for families to move from rental housing into affordable home ownership using their Housing Choice Voucher. Once eligibility is determined, participants will attend a home ownership educational workshop. When completed, participants will be ready to seek financing at the lender of their choice.

Qualifications:

-   Must be a Section 8 participant for at least one year.

-   Must be consistently employed fulltime for one year (average at     least 30 hours per week (elderly & disabled are exempt).

-   Must meet income eligibility requirements, (not less than the Federal minimum wage multiplied by 2000 hours).

-   Must be in full compliance with current lease.

-   Must not have owned a home in Mahaska County in the past three years.

-   Must be willing to utilize voucher to purchase a home within Oskaloosa.
