Trees
Forever
The
18 member Oskaloosa Trees Forever organization has been in existence
since 1992. This volunteer organization is a subcommittee of the
city. The committee has participated in the planting of about 2,000
landscape sized trees and approximately 1,700 seedlings. Although
the committee's primary function has been to plant trees, the focus
is more of a broad based community urban forestry program. The committee
has been involved in promoting several educational efforts within
the community. Reviewing and recommending changes to the city's
tree ordinance, completed inventory of the community's street trees,
and tree distribution of seedlings for each 2nd grade aged student
in Oskaloosa. Trees Forever is funded through private donations
as well as grants from the Iowa Dept. of Transportation, Mid American
Energy and the Department of Natural Resources. The current Trees
Forever Chair is Dr. H.C. Coen. More information about the organization
can be obtained by contacting Dr. Coen at 641/673-4366 or Oskaloosa
City Hall at 641/673-8361 or e-mail: cschippers@mahaska.org
