The City of Oskaloosa, Mahaska County and the Mahaska County Humane Society jointly own and operate the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.

Private garbage haulers handle garbage collection and recycling pickup within the City of Oskaloosa. The Mahaska County landfill is located at 2979 Highway 63 South, (641) 673-9266. The Recycle Center is located at 701 Hwy. 432, (641) 673-0001.
